Castleton is a village in the High Peak district of Derbyshire and is famous for its underground show caves; Blue John Cavern, Speedwell Cavern, Treak Cliff Cavern and Peak Cavern.
It has many stunning aspects to its quaint little village and is a major walking attraction where routes to Cave Dale, Winnats Pass, Mam Tor and Hollins Cross meet.
Mam Tor and the Great Ridge of the White Peak sits spectacularly n the distance and the dramatic limestone gorge of Winnatts Pass is something out of a scene from the Hobbit and in fact, has been used for filming Most Haunted: Midsummer Murders, Silver Chair, The Princess Bride and The Other Boleyn Girl, filmed as recent as 2008.
Sitting high above the village, and a steep walk up the rocky pathway to Cavedale you will find the Norman Ruins of Peveril Castle
With plenty of pubs, cafes and local shops, Castleton is one of the most visited areas in the Peak District and can get extremely busy at the weekends.
